Why RAAC?
The primary objective of RAAC (Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore) is to create a good, pleasant and serene living atmosphere conducive for leading a healthy and peaceful life. RAAC believes that this can be achieved only by relieving the city from traffic congestion, overcrowding and providing it with adequate basic infrastructure. The development of a city must happen, keeping in mind the adequate space earmarked for playing children, senior citizens, parking areas, trees and entertainment.
The current building regulations of Coimbatore are outdated and they were formed many years ago. These regulations do not meet the requirements and evolving needs of present day Coimbatore. Owing to the fast paced economic growth and unchecked development of building activities, apartments and commercial complexes are being built even in narrow lanes of small residential colonies of width 20ft to 30ft without adequate infrastructure. So this leads to road congestion, shortage of drinking water, depletion of ground water, drainage issues and parking problems.
Most of the roads in Coimbatore are already facing severe traffic congestion. Five years ago a place in Coimbatore, which we could reach within 15 minutes, is now taking more than 45 minutes because of the poor road conditions and the swollen traffic.
